Neighbors in Cambria County have an opportunity to go solar in a group as part of the  with the help of . The co-op provides technical support and bulk purchasing power to help participants get a great deal while also building a network of solar supporters.  and the are the co-op sponsors. There are currently 22 participants in the group. Interested community members can still join.

The group will hold its final public information session September 12 at 6 p.m. at ������ϲʿ������ to educate the community about solar and the co-op process. Full details about the event can be found below. After the information session, staff from ������ϲʿ������'s Institute for Energy will give a short tour of their tiny classroom, which features solar panels, battery storage, a biomass pellet stove, and other sustainable features.

“We’re excited to offer local residents an opportunity to see just how solar works in a typical home [as seen in the Institute’s new tiny classroom] and provide them more information to decide if going solar is right for them. We hope all community members who are interested in this technology can join us for this informational meeting,” said Allison Rohrs, director, Institute for Energy.

Solar United Neighbors expands access to solar by educating Pennsylvania residents about the benefits of distributed solar energy, helping them organize group solar installations, and strengthening Pennsylvania’s solar policies and its community of solar supporters. Nationally, the  solar co-op program has a record of success stretching across nine states. Over the past decade, Solar United Neighbors has supported more than 150 solar co-ops, helping roughly 3,200 homes go solar and saving residents more than $12 million.

Cambria County residents interested in joining the co-op can sign up at the co-op website (). The co-op is free to join. Joining the co-op is not a commitment to purchase panels. Co-op participants recently selected  to serve the group, choosing them over three other firms because of their competitive pricing, quality components, experience, and ability to support a diversity of roof types. Each co-op participant will receive a customized proposal for their home.
