Biography

Dr. Miller graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology while specializing in athletic training. He continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Mount Aloysius College in 2002. Fifteen years later, he was ready for a new challenge! He enrolled in the post-professional doctorate of occupational therapy program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professionals and successfully obtained his post-professional doctorate degree in August 2018. 

 

Dr. Miller has been employed by ProCare PT, LP in Altoona, PA, since 2002, where he currently serves as an outpatient occupational therapist, certified hand therapist, certified athletic trainer, and industrial rehabilitation specialist. Dr. Miller not only continues to provide advanced occupational and hand therapy services to clients with neuromusculoskeletal conditions, but he also continues to manage ProCare’s industrial rehabilitation division. He conducts functional capacity evaluations, job demands analyses, ergonomic assessments, work conditioning programs, and post-offer employment tests for several employers within western Pennsylvania. Dr. Miller also conducts seminars for businesses to mitigate risks of work-related injuries. 

 

Dr. Miller’s passion for education presented him with many adjunct roles within the realm of academia throughout his years. Dr. Miller’s overarching goal of becoming a full-time professor came to fruition in August 2019. Dr. Miller is currently a full-time Clinical Associate Professor within the Master of Occupational Therapy Program at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±½á¹û on the topics of musculoskeletal system disorders and interventions, acute care medical conditions, hand therapy, kinesiology, ergonomics, work injury prevention programs, body mechanics, and industrial rehabilitation. Dr. Miller is a dynamic professor that aims to engage his students in learning as well as a dynamic health care provider that aims to provide optimal care grounded on current evidence-based practices. 

 

Currently, Dr. Miller serves as the MOT department chair and program director, in addition to his teaching. He is an active member of several university committees and national committees. Dr. Miller is engaged in research that covers a variety of subject matters, including assessing effectiveness of occupational therapy interventions in hand therapy, increasing awareness and knowledge of the occupational therapy profession, curriculum assessment, and workplace ergonomics and injury prevention. Dr. Miller has professional memberships in the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association, the American Occupational Therapy Association, and the American Society of Hand Therapists.
